Manipal: Padma Rao postgraduation oration held

Manipal, 01 August 2017: The two-day Manipal Obstetrics and Gynecology Resident Conference and Dr A Padma Rao Memorial Postgraduate Update and Oration” concluded here at the Kasturba Medical College Manipal on Sunday. Forty six post graduate residents presented their research work and 12 guest speakers gave lectures on different aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology.



Dr Muralidhar V Pai, Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, KMC, Manipal and chairman of the organizing committee while speaking about the conference said that this year the postgraduates from other medical colleges in the state were also participating. Till last year it was open to students of Manipal only. He added, “We hope to have national representation from the next year”.


Prof Sreedevi SN, Professor and Head, Department of OBG, Pushpagiri Medical College, Thiruvalla, Kerala delivered the Dr A Padma Rao Endowment Oration. She spoke on, “Acute maternal morbidity”. The oration plaque and citation were awarded by the Chief Guest Dr Pragna Rao, Dean Designate, KMC, Manipal and Dr A Krishna Rao.


Dr Pragna Rao, spoke on the importance of reducing maternal and perinatal mortality and the contributions of Dr A Padma Rao in bringing them down to International standards in Udupi District, through RMCH centers. She also stressed on the need for quality research and presentations on communication skills among future residents.


Dr Pratap Kumar and Dr Subha Gita also spoke on Dr Padma Rao. Dr (Col) Dayananda distributed prizes to winners of paper and poster competitions. Dr Shripad Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks.
