Manipal, 05 December 2017: A 2-day summit to help develop an emerging field at the intersection of multi-disciplinary understandings of Supply Chain and Logistics Manipal- KSSPL Ports Summit 1.0 was held at Dr TMA Pai Hall here last week. The Summit was inaugurated by Mr. Jitendra Nimagadda, Chief Operating Officer of KSSPL, Nellore. Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar MAHE was the Guest of Honour.



The objectives of this summit were to explore new research opportunities from a range of academic disciplines which shed light on various aspects of Port operations, Supply Chain and Logistics and at the same time, to develop links between academics and industry. More than 300 delegates and professionals participated. Department of Commerce received a congratulatory message from Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi for organizing the event.


Speakers from academia and corporates deliberated on various topics of importance. Mr. Nownith Kumar from NMPT Mangalore spoke on, “Port Operations And Its Opportunities And Challenges”. Mr. Hariharan, Manipal Academy of Banking, Bangalore dwelt on the role of banks in port operations and development. Dr. T.P.M Pakkala, Mangalore University stressed on various aspects of inventory management in companies dealing with logistics.


Dr. Pathipathi Srihari delivered a talk on Functional prediction using estimation and soft computing techniques. Dr. Yogesh Pai, Associate Professor, SOM, Manipal spoke on career and skill development in Logistics management. Dr. Venkatraman SCM, Uthra Logistics presented his session by introducing Terminals.


Mr. Vinayak Shenoy from Ganesh Shipping explained a new operational concept of E-sealing which proves to be an effective system through network to wean out malpractices in cargo movement. Dr. Pradyuth Ranjan Jena, NITK, Surathkal delivered a session on relevant issues on environmental sustainability and its implications on port activities.
Mr. Praveen Vinod, IRS, Dept. of Central excise & service Taxes spoke on significant terminologies of customs act like commercial invoice, Anti-dumping duty, Exemption notification, safeguard duty, and risk assessment. Mr. Naveen Kumar representing Manipal Academy of Global Education (MAGE) deliberated on the evolution of supply chain management. Mr. B Ramesh from Snirith Engineering deliberated on the concept of container with respect to shipping industry.
