Manipal, 16 July 2017: The inmates of Asare, a home for the mentally challenged in Manipal, planted paddy saplings at their centre on Wednesday. Col.Prakash Chandra Director General Services Manipal University, Manipal was present on the occasion. Parents of the inmates and governing council members of Asare were also present.

Several programmes are held at Asare to keep the inmates engaged and involved in different kinds of activities to create interest and be creative in their own small way. As such the inmates are initiated in new hobbies and pastimes which help them to lead a normal life. “Planting paddy saplings has become an annual feature and last year there was a good yield of rice,” said Mr Jai Vittal, a governing council member.
