Manipal University achieves ISO 50001By Alexander Chandy

Manipal, 12 July 2017: Manipal University’s efforts to maintain global best practices in energy management, energy use and energy performance, factors that impact global climate change, were duly recognized by M/s TUV Rheinland (I) Pvt. Ltd. At a function here at the University on Tuesday, Mr. Bernd Hagen, Regional Manager, Certification of Management Systems– M/s TUV Rheinland Pvt. Ltd. handed over the certificates of recognition.
The University has been successfully implementing these practices in line with ISO 50001 standard with demonstrable outcomes. Apart from this, the University has been consistently improving upon its quality and environmental performance by incorporating the revised ISO standards 9001 & 14001.
The ISO 9001 certificate was received by Pro Vice Chancellors, Dr. Poornima Baliga and Dr. G. K. Prabhu, ISO 14001 by Registrar Dr. Narayana Sabhahit and ISO 50001 certificate was received by Pro Chancellor, Dr. H.S. Ballal. All heads of constituent colleges, along with nodal officers, were presented with their respective certificates.
Dr. Ballal said that although the focus of the University was education and health care, environmental considerations were an integral part of decision making to ensure that no adverse impact arises due to the University’s operations. The energy management certification is a testimony to the positive contribution by the University to mitigating effects of climate change.
